Check List to Open/Close

Admittedly, I have a bad memory. This is why I keep an ongoing to-do list. If the same is true for you, consider jotting down a few notes for opening and closing your business. There should always be a set routine to follow. Whether the list is for yourself or your employees, its worth spending a few minutes make one.
Below are two checklists we've created to help you get started. These opening and closing checklists may be a perfect fit for your setup or you may find the need to alter them quite a bit. Either way, make sure each task is done daily.
Opening Checklist
- Arrive 15-30 minutes before opening
- Turn on Heat/Air Conditioner
- Pick up trash in parking lot and around business
- Wipe off outside counters
- Make sure all signs and banners outside are neat and clean
- Mop the floor
- Put trash bags in trash cans
- Make sure all items are stocked and ready syrups, napkins, spoons, straws, cups, back-ups, toppings, notepads, pens and paper towels
- Call about inventory that may be needed or ordered
- Wash windows
- Turn open sign at correct time
Closing Checklist
- Should be able to leave within 15-20 minutes of closing
- Turn closed sign at correct time
- Clean and wipe down all surfaces inside stand walls, countertops, refrigerator, freezer, shelves
- Clean ice shaver, wipe down inside and outside, wipe out and clean drip pan
- Wipe off all flavor and concentrate bottles including quart and gallon jugs
- Wipe out refrigerator
- Make sure all items are stocked and ready syrups, napkins, spoons, straws, cups, back-ups, toppings, notepads, pens and paper towels
- Stock inside freezer with ice
- Lock windows
- Take trash to dumpster
- Make list of items needed for next shift
- Sweep and mop floor
- Turn lights and AC off
- Lock door
