Ice Molds for New Orleans Block Ice Shavers

Making your own block ice is easy with a heavy-duty polyethylene reusable ice mold from 1-800-Shaved-Ice. This 6.75-inch by 16.5-inch by 7.5-inch ice molds create blocks that fit perfectly in New Orleans-style block ice shavers; the ice is roughly 5.5 inches wide, 6.25 inches high and 14.5 inches long when it’s completely frozen. You’ll save money and be able to produce as little — or as much — ice as you need.

We suggest filling the ice mold about 3/4 of the way full with clean tap water and letting it freeze for 3 days at 10 degrees Fahrenheit. If you freeze the water at a temperature lower than 10 degrees Fahrenheit the ice will expand too rapidly resulting in the ice cracking and possibly breaking the mold. Once your blocks are frozen you may notice cracks but this is a normal process as the water expands during the freezing process. Bulges are common also and may be chipped away easily with an ice pick to create a level surface. The ice block will also look cloudy, this is perfectly normal.

We recommend using a standard chest freezer when making your own ice. You may need to purchase a thermometer to install in your freezer to ensure that the freezer is at 10 degrees Fahrenheit.

Pro Tip: Since this ice mold does not come with a lid you can stack them perpendicular to each other in the freezer so you can freeze more blocks of ice at one time.
